i heart bob costas

you know, there are only a very few of the olympic commentators i really appreciate. bob, obviously, is number 1 in my book. i've liked bob ever since i first set ears on him oh-so-many years ago. he asks informed questions, shows sincere interest in the subject--person or event--at hand and highlights the silver lining; maybe you didn't win the gold, but after talking to bob, you may as well have because he made you feel like you did.
i've even enjoyed chris collinsworth. how could you not enjoy a retired footballer, who now spends all of his free time hanging out with the golden athletes (and their mothers; did anyone see him with debbie phelps? loved it) and doing those "this is where they came from" stories that make you wonder why you didn't grow up in the east la ghetto slums with a single mother and nothing to eat at night but the food you stole from school because if you had, you'd have gold around your neck now too. he gets into any olympic venue--watercube, birds nest, chaoyang park--for any olympic event--swimming, volleyball, gold medal matches--with what he calls "the million dollar ticket." it's good to be chris collinsworth.
that being said, i absolutely loathe and want to kick in the teeth the following two reporters: andrea kremer ("jason lezak, you just swam your team to a gold medal over the frogs...what are your thoughts on michael phelps winning eight golds here in beijing?!" ) and bob newmeyer (allow me to get in your face with poor-taste questions right after the first time you've ever lost "your" race). monkeys could conduct better interviews than these two.
my advice to nbc: keep costas and collinsworth, kick kremer and newmeyer.
next order of business...
list of official olympic sports:
archery*
badminton*
baseball
basketball
boxing*
canoeing*
cycling
diving*
equestrian*
fencing*
field hockey
football (aka soccer)
gymnastics*
handball*
judo*
modern pentathalon
rowing
sailing*
shooting*
softball
swimming
synchronized swimming*
table tennis*
taekwondo*
tennis
triathalon
volleyball
water polo
weightlifting*
wrestling*

*these. are. not. sports. past times at best. i mean, if badminton and table tennis are considered olympic sports, can ultimate frisbee be too far behind? or better yet, shuffleboard or horseshoes? and what about archery, sailing, shooting or weightlifting is athletic? nothing. and the only thing athletic about equestrian are the horses, so give those mares a medal. also, did you notice that most of the scoring in these sports comes from a panel of judges, who haven't necessarily participated in these sports? sports, REAL sports, are not scored subjectively. amen.
